The National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has today submitted its report to the Party’s National Working Committee (NWC), recommending the expulsion of the ousted National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, from the party. This development comes in the wake of serious allegations of misconduct and anti-party activities leveled against him.
The committee’s report, which was presented at the PDP headquarters in Abuja earlier today, highlights several charges of gross misconduct and abuse of office. These allegations have been linked to Senator Anyanwu’s actions following the Appeal Court’s decision to oust him as National Secretary of the PDP. Sources within the party suggest that his refusal to accept the court’s ruling and his subsequent actions have significantly disrupted the party’s unity and operations.
The NDC’s recommendation for expulsion is in line with the provisions outlined in the PDP’s constitution of 2017, as amended, which governs party conduct and discipline. In accordance with this, the National Working Committee (NWC) is expected to review the findings and take appropriate action based on Articles 57, 58, 59, and 60 of the party’s constitution.
This decision marks a significant step in the party’s efforts to maintain discipline and uphold its internal rules. The NDC’s findings come after a series of events, including Senator Anyanwu, former Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, and others refusing to appear before the committee for a hearing. Despite requests for them to present their cases on Friday, February 12, 2025, neither Anyanwu nor the other individuals involved complied with the request, fueling tensions within the party.
Senator Anyanwu’s tenure as National Secretary of the PDP was marred by controversy, and his ouster has sparked ongoing disputes within the party. His subsequent defiance of the legal and internal party processes has only deepened the rift between him and the leadership of the PDP.
As the NWC considers the recommendation for his expulsion, the party is faced with the task of addressing the growing divisions within its ranks. The next steps will be closely watched by both party members and the general public, as they could have far-reaching implications for the future of the PDP, particularly in the lead-up to the 2025 elections.
Stay tuned for updates as the situation unfolds.
