A combined security team in Anambra State has rescued a kidnapped victim and recovered his shuttle bus following a gun duel with armed criminals in Ihiala. One of the assailants was neutralized in the encounter, while four others escaped with gunshot wounds.

According to a statement released by the Anambra State Police Command, the operation took place on the evening of March 24, 2025, when the joint security team—comprising the police, military, and Ihiala vigilante operatives—intercepted a suspicious black shuttle bus with registration number RSH 255MS. Upon attempting to stop the vehicle, the armed occupants opened fire on the operatives, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire.

In his words, during the confrontation, security operatives successfully demobilized one of the gunmen, while the other four suspects abandoned the bus and fled into a nearby bush with varying degrees of gunshot wounds. He added that a subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a blindfolded victim whose hands and legs were tied, and his mouth sealed. The victim was immediately rescued, provided with first aid, and later debriefed by the police.

The statement further noted that security forces have intensified operations in the area to track down the fleeing suspects. Additionally, the police have urged hospitals and medical facilities across the state to admit but promptly report any individual seeking treatment for bullet wounds or other suspicious injuries, as part of efforts to apprehend the criminals.
