Minister for Women Affairs Bar Uju Kenneth Ohanenye has dismissed the allegation from some quarters that the Federal Government call for submission of BVN for employment is a fraud contending that it not only untrue but an affront to discredit the regime of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu.
Ohanenye who stated this while presenting palliatives and empowerment to over 5,000 women in Umudioka – Awka in Anambra state lamented that the falsehood being perpetrated has been discouraging Nigerians from being part of the empowerment scheme of the Federal government.
According to her, the Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration has introduced numerous social security initiatives aimed at uplifting Nigerians, especially the poor.
She emphasized that many people are hesitant to provide their BVN, fearing that their money might be stolen.
She encouraged individuals to submit their BVN so the government can plan and provide assistance to the less privileged.
“The BVN helps the government identify those who qualify for federal social security palliatives. The aid is meant for the poor, not the rich, who have cornered these resources over the years,” she added.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Chief Executive Officer of Smart Gas, Mrs. Yinka Okpeke, stated that they decided to supply gas because the ministry’s mandate is to alleviate hardship for women.
“Our focus is to see how we can assist women who currently rely on firewood for cooking, and we are partnering with the Women’s Ministry to address this issue,” she said.
The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State, Chief Basil Ejidike, commended the Honourable minister for her industriousness in serving the nation.
He noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is making commendable efforts to reposition Nigeria and called on citizens to support him in transforming the country.
“Nigeria was in a mess before now, and the president is reengineering the whole process for the good of the citizens,” he stated.
A total of 5,000 bags of rice , 300 cooking gas cylinders and over 500 bags of fertilizers were distributed to the women.
