Nigeria Union of Journalists members in Imo State Council led by Comrade Precious Nwadike, on Monday October 28, 2024 visited the TV presenter and activist, Mr. Chinosonso Uba otherwise known as Nonsonkwa at the Owerri Correctional Center.
Mr. Uba was arrested in gestapo style and detained by the Imo State Police Command, on accusation of cyberstalking, character defamation, spreading of misinformation and inflammatory statement leading to the burning of National Open University located at Nsu Ehime Mbano Local Government Area.
He was later arraigned and remanded at the Owerri Correctional Center by Magistrate Court , Owerri, Imo State which claimed it had no jurisdiction on the case.
The Imo NUJ team told Uba that they were in solidarity and assured him of the union support.
Speaking, Uba expressed happiness with the solidarity and narrated his ordeals in the hands of Ebubeagu operatives in collaboration with some Tigerbase officers, alleging that their intention was to eliminate him during the gestapo style arrest, adding that they were prevented by the crowd at Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).
He revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma was not aware of his arrest, but when heard it, he provided him all the necessary assistance at their custody before charging him to court. He thanked the NUJ team for their visit.
The Imo NUJ team who visited him were Victor Madumere, Augustine Agwulonu, George Ihejiuwa, Stephanie Michael, Reginald Oloko, Queeneth Sagas, Anselam Anokwute, Nduka Val, Hamilton Onuchukwu and Iyke Ozurumba.
