Journalists in Anambra State, under the umbrella of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) are set to honour Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of Anambra State Governor, with two distinguished awards.
The Chairman of NUJ, Anambra State Council, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, PhD, announced this in a statement made available to newsmen in Awka, in which he also disclosed that the awards were clinched after an appraisal conducted by NUJ on the activities of wives of the south-east governors in support of their husbands and the society.
According to him, the awards include “NUJ Anambra Most Supportive Governor’s Wife in the South-East”, and as “NUJ Anambra Voice for the Voiceless in South East”, which he said the Mrs. Soludo bagged for leading a campaign of healthy change in lifestyle, empowering women, children and youths unprecedentedly through social welfare, institutional reformation, and family values.
Comrade Odogwu also noted that the award will be presented to Mrs. Soludo on November 7th, 2024 at Godwin Ezeemo International Press center, NUJ Secretariat Complex, Awka, during the NUJ 2024 Press Week and Man of the Year Awards.
His words: “Three months ago, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra State Council, led by Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, PhD, JP, announced at its Congress the need to do an appraisal of the activities of wives of the Governors in support of their husbands and the society.
“We wrote the wives of the Governors of the South-East via the state councils of the NUJ in various states of the geopolitical zone to submit their achievements through the Non-Governmental organizations they run in support of their husbands who have constitutional duties.
“This was with the aim to discover how supportive their activities are to the overall government policies and programmes. We didn’t say it was a competition to allow for honest submissions.
“We also went online on various social media platforms asking for the public opinion on this. So many people reacted too, giving their honest judgements, before subjecting the outcome to further screening and announcement of results. We as a Union, now made it public after due diligence.
“NUJ Anambra is delighted to announce the founder of Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative and wife of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, Dr.Mrs Nonye Soludo as the winner of the Most Supportive Governor’s Wife in South East Nigeria. She also clinched the award of The Voice for the Voiceless in the society.
“The content of achievements document of Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative submitted to the NUJ committee and the open digital ballot competition survey among other criteria deployed had her winning outstandingly in all ramifications.
“Her positive impact on Anambra women, children and youths were massive through her healthy living care, social support, grassroots touch, and agriculture, to mention but a few.
“We announce that Dr. Mrs. Nonye Soludo shall be honoured as NUJ Anambra Most Supportive Governor’s Wife in the South-East, and as NUJ Anambra Voice for the Voiceless in South-East, for leading a campaign of healthy change in lifestyle, empowering women, children and youths unprecedentedly through social welfare, institutional reformation, and family values.
“The two awards will be presented to the Anambra first lady on November 7th, 2024 at Godwin Ezeemo International Press center, NUJ Secretariat Complex, Awka behind CBN, by 11am, during our NUJ 2024 Press Week and Man of the Year Awards.”
