Gov Charles Soludo of Anambra state has described as too pedestal the trending report that the twenty one newly inaugurated local government Chairmen and Councillors were subjected to oath taking before they were nominated as candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA for the just concluded Council polls.
He further contended that such fetish and esoteric actions are beneath his feet hence cannot condescend to share diabolism recalling that the party constitution has made specific provisions for the nomination of candidates for everything election.
The said report has it that the oath taking was a condition to pledge their loyalties and failure to obey the oath would be tantamount to impeachment by the local government legislative arm of government in the area.
According to the Commissioner for Information and Public Orientation who spoke on his behalf Dr Law Mefor;
“This issue of oath taking is novel and strange to me . I remember that it happened in the time past when a gubernatorial candidate was forced to take oath in a shrine but not anymore and not under the watch of Gov Charles Soludo”
“So if you know Gov Charles Soludo very well, you couldn’t have asked this question in the first place”
“Soludo doesn’t have time for such fetish and esoteric practices and if you come close to him you would discover that such things are beneath the feet ”
“Such fetish and esoteric practices are beneath his feet and just don’t go there at all because there is no such thing like that and let me quickly add that the roles of the Council Chairmen and Councillors are clearly defined by the instant laws a particularly the constitution ”
“The constitution is clear about their roles and if you understand their roles you will see that they are protected by the constitution and even the conversational local government administration one may ask why do people think that the local government Chairmen and Councillors are tired to the
strings of the governor while they are protected by the constitution “he said.
Mefor further explained that the APGA constitution make provisions for the nomination of candidates through, election, that is direct or indirect primary elections and of course consensus.
“The party chose to do consensus by bye passing any process that would amount to wasting of time , wasting of resources ”
“Since we already have people who were members of the local government Transition Committees they were. endorsed including that of the Councillors ”
“Other parties are at liberty to nominate their own candidates through whatever means or method their constitution prescribes” he said.
