An estimated number of fourteen internal roads in Awka Capital City are currently under maintenance by the administration of Gov Charles Soludo.
The project which is being executed by the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority ACTDA is aimed at ensuring free flow of traffic and ease of vehicular movement before during and after the coming Christmas and New Year celebrations .
Among the roads currently under maintenance and rehabilitation are Ziks Avenue, some collapsed potions of Enugu – Onitsha Express way , Ichida road and Chukwuemaka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital.
Others are , the Arroma High Tension road to Amaenyi market, secretariat road and internal roads in the Teaching Hospital.
Recall that since the sustained rains in the state most internal roads have witnessed flooding which has led to the eroding of some potions of the roads hence creating traffic in the area.
According to the Managing Director of ACTIDA Ozo Ossy Onuko who was on site inspection of the project;
“We have always had a routine maintenance of our roads as well as palliative work on those roads and Gov Charles Soludo has in his wisdom ordered that there should be this road maintainance”
“As you can see some of these roads have been obstructing vehicular movement and some are fast becoming death traps to motorists and other road users.”
“For us as a government we are expectant that there would be population explosion both in human beings and vehicles during this coming festive season so we want to ensure that our internal roads at the Capital Territory are in good state to prevent our people from having issues of traffic jams and non easy passage of road users ”
Continuing Onuko noted that contract has been awarded for the rehabilitation of the Arroma – Secretarte road as we as the Arroma – High Tension road adding that the internal roads at the Teaching Hospital would also be taken care of.
