Police Retirees Cry Out Over Unfulfilled Demands, Treating To Occupy NASS

The Retired Police Officers of Nigeria (REPON) under PENCOM Bauchi State Chapter has vowed to bombard the National Assembly premises over failure to fulfilled their demands opened agreed by the Senate under the able Chairman, Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Ahmed Abdulkadir Mallam Madori before in May, 2024.

Accordingly demand for the immediate establishment of Police Pension Board with a view to reduce the suffering and problems being encountered by their members in the country.

The leader of the retirees association, Rtd ASP John Iliya who double as the Secretary made this known during a press briefing with the journalists at NUJ secteriate Wednesday in Bauchi, said over 500 members died others were suffering due to poor handling and management of their pension’s benefits.

He said “our case has been in the National Assembly since 2012 when the struggle started, infact, this has caused the lose of life of our members about 500 dead therefore, we cannot continue to entertain this false promises any longer.

” In May, 21st 2024 a protest was staged in pursuance of our case was carried out at the National Assembly gate where the chairman Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Ahmed Abdulkarim Mallam Madori and his committee members promised that our demands will be done on or before September, 2024. And now September has come and gone”,.

“we therefore, calling on the federal government, Minister of Police Affairs, National Assembly that if our demands were not meet then we have no other option than to occupy the National Assembly”, the retirees reiterated.

The demands were; To exit the Nigeria Police Force from the contributory pension scheme, and To establish a Police Pension Board to enable us manage ourselves respectively.

He explained some reason why the feel like been neglected after serving the Nation before their retirement periods.

He said “during their recent meeting upon meetings has been held by various Committee while that of the Committee on Police Affairs has not done so, why?,” why was it that the IGPs elongation bill was given preference (deliberated) and pass without a public hearing? “Why the IGPs, DIPs, and AIGs were exited from CPS without any legislation or legal back up?”,.
