Some unidentified armed men have reportedly kidnapped Engr. Ezekiel Iheazor, the President-General of Umunze community in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Engr. Iheazor was reportedly kidnapped in his Lomu village in Umunze on Friday, October 4, alongside a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Nze Ikechukwu Okoli.
According Vanguard, the PG was on a visit to Okoli’s home when the kidnappers stormed and whisked two of them away amid heavy gunfire.
The report also quoted a source from the community as saying: “It is true, Umunze is in disarray. Our PG and Iykon were kidnapped. Today is Nkwo, our main market day, and it has been raining heavily. I heard loud gunshots but couldn’t come out due to the rain. After the rain subsided, I reached out to friends near the market, and they confirmed nothing had happened there. Soon after, a community leader broke the sad news to me.”
It was further gathered that, as at the time of filing this report, no contact or communication has yet been made by captors, to the families of their victims, leaving the people worried about the whereabouts and the welfare of the duo.
When contacted by this reporter, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Ikenga Tochukwu confirmed that the Command had received information about the incident, and has also put measures in place to get more facts about it and also rescue the victims.
“The Command has received the information and has put measures in place to get more facts on the incident for possible rescue,
“Further development shall be communicated, please,” SP Ikenga said in a chat with this reporter.
This reporter, Izunna Okafor, recalls that unidentified gunmen similarly kidnapped the President General of Abatete Community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State on Tuesday, September 17. Though he later regained his freedom and safely returned hours after.
