Ideato South State Constituency Representative, Hon. Engr. Johnson Iheaonukara Duru, popularly known as (PaJay) is said to have been killed by gunfire in the United States of America.

The Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chike Olemgbe revealed this during a plenary session on October 16, 2024, observing a moment of silence in honor of the Lawmaker’s late son.

Reports indicate that the boy was an innocent bystander caught in a violent shootout between rival gangs.

This distressing event echoes a similar tragedy from July 2021, when Cathy Feingold, the Director of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), lost her husband, Jeremy White, to gunfire in New York while they were walking home with friends after dining out.

The news of Duru’s son’s death has plunged his family and the Dimagu Autonomous Community in the Isiekenesi Ancient Kingdom of Ideato- South LGA into profound sorrow.

The community is still reeling from the recent kidnapping of the lawmaker’s elder brother, retired Major-General Richard Duru, who has been missing since September 2023, despite a ransom of fifty thousand dollars having been paid to the kidnappers.

This tragic series of events has cast a long shadow over the Duru family and their community, underscoring the ongoing violence and insecurity affecting people.
