A 55-year-old man parading himself as an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has been apprehended in Anambra State.
The impersonator, identified as Emmanuel Oche, a native of Agila in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State, was arrested on Tuesday, October 15, at the popular Aroma Junction, in Awka, Anambra state capital.
Confirming this in a statement issued to newsmen on Wednesday, the Head of Media and Tactical Ops, NSCDC Anambra State Command, SC Okadigbo Edwin, said that Mr. Oche, the impostor dressed as a Civil Defence officer to intimidate, deceive, exploit, and extort unsuspecting members of the public and also indulge in other fraudulent activities in Anambra State.
According to him, the suspect confessed to have bought the uniform from a second-hand cloth dealer in Ogbunike Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Continuing, SC Edwin said, in reaction to the development, the State Commandant of NSCDC, Commandant Maku Olatunde has cautioned members of the public to be vigilant and exercise discernment when approached by anyone claiming to be a Civil Defence officer.
He further stated that Commandant Olatunde has ordered the Investigation and Intelligence Department to conduct discreet investigation to unravel the source of the uniform and the motive behind the suspect’s impersonation, while also noting that the suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
