There is heavy security presence at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Center Awka ; venue for the conduct of the People’s Democratic Party PDP state Congress to elect it’s state executive committee.
From the entrance of the center along Awka- Onitsha express way to the main compound of the center is filled with officers and men of the police, civil defense, army and the Directorate of State Security DSS.
The Congress was slated for last Saturday but was postponed to Wednesday 22nd October due to the late arrival of materials for the election.
Recall that in the past two years the PDP have not had a duely elected state executive committee as the affairs of the party are being run by Caretaker Committee executives
About 3,000 delegates drawn from the 21 local government Areas and three Senatorial districts of the state are to elect the party’s new SEC who are to pilot the affairs of the PDP in Anambra.
The Enugu State Deputy Governor, Mr. Ifeanyi Ossai who is the chairman of the five man Congress Committee and Secretary of the committee, Mr Ndubuisi Eneh are to midwife the congresses with 36 positions to be contested for.
Chief Chigozie Igwe is the current State Caretaker Chairman of PDP in the state
Igwe took over from Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu who presided over the affairs of the party for three years.
