Village Chairmen in Anambra state under the platform of Village Chairmen Forum have resolved to commence a more robust security operations in their villages and bring development to the grassroots .
This is coming as the President General of Umunze Community in Orumba South local government area Engr Ezekiel Iheazor and a Chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA Nze Ikechukwu Okoli were last Friday kidnaped by gunmen in the town.
The President General Iheazor went to pay a visit to Okoli at his home when the gunmen stormed his home firing several gun shots and ultimately abducted the duo and as at the time of filing this report no contact has been established.
Rising from the meeting of the Village Chairmen Forum the leader and convener Sir Osita Kingsley Ozalagba stated that they have resolved to complement the efforts of the Community President Generals and government in the area of fighting insecurity and bringing development to the grassroots.
“Our meeting today is very crucial as it is aimed at helping to bring governance and development to the grassroots and we commend Gov Charles Soludo for his sustained fight against insecurity and for all the infrastructures that he is providing to the state and we have resolved to work in synagy with his administration along with our Community President Generals in that regard” he said.
Similarly the Chairmen of the Umunze Village Chairmen Hon Umeaka Hyginus noted that stories of insecurity in Umenze is not entirely true contending that those activities of the gunmen happens at the neighboring towns such as Ihite and Ogbunka Communities but they are alleged to have occurred in Umunze.
“In all sincerity Umunze is a very popular town and most of the neighboring towns such as Ihite and Ogbunka are where these incidents happen but they refer it as Umunze”
“We have our respective Village Vigilante groups funded by the Villages while the state government funds the Community Vigilante groups as well as other sister security organizations”
Chairman of Enugu – Aguleri Village in Anambra East local government area Chukwudi Onyejekwe Esq contended that is government wants to fight insecurity it must as a matter of urgency establish a connection between it and the villages and not just the Community executives .
He noted that with that lack of connection is the bane of ensuring peace and security in the villages as the gunmen can be identified by the villages and nipped on the board .
Confirming the incident the Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochikwu Ikenga noted that officers and men of the Command has commenced sustained manhunt for the gunmen that Kidnaped the President General and the APGA party Chieftain.
