This initiative comes in response to the recent turmoil surrounding the controversial non recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and establishment of a stakeholders caretaker committee led by Senator Nenadi Usman, which has been backed by prominent figures including His Excellency Alex Otti and the Party’s 2023 Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.
The emergence of this caretaker committee has raised significant concerns, as it seemingly sidelines the leadership of Barr Julius Abure. The leadership crisis has been exacerbated by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) refusal to recognize Barr Abure’s team, creating a leadership vacuum that the caretaker committee aims to fill. However, the installation of this new leadership has faced delays, as INEC has postponed its recognition of the Nenadi-led committee pending the resolution of a case filed by the Labour Party in a Federal High Court in Abuja.
