President Joe Bidenย saw aย neurologist at the White Houseย in January as part of hisย annual physical, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a new statement Tuesday evening, correcting her comment from earlier in the day that the specialistโ€™s visit earlier this year had not been related to the president.

โ€œBecause the date was not mentioned in the question, I want to be clear that theย January 17th meeting between Dr. Oโ€™Connor and Dr. Cannard was for the Presidentโ€™s physical,โ€ Jean-Pierre said.ย โ€œIt was one of the three times the President has seen Dr. Cannard, each time for his physical.ย The findings from each exam have been released to the public.โ€

Jean-Pierre had been asked in Tuesdayโ€™s White House press briefing whether neurologist Dr. Kevin Cannardโ€™s meeting with the presidentโ€™s physician, Dr. Kevin Oโ€™Connor, on January 17 was โ€œrelated to care for the president himself.โ€ (CNN previously confirmed via White House visitorsโ€™ logs that the two men had met in January at the White House.)

Jean-Pierre answered: โ€œI can say that it was not.โ€

The reference in Jean-Pierreโ€™s new statement blaming the fact that a specific date had not been mentioned in the reporterโ€™s question does not pass muster. Cannard was listed on the White House visitors logs multiple times over the pastย year, but only once โ€“ in January โ€“ shown to have met with Oโ€™Connor. The reason for that particular visit had been a focus of multiple questions in Mondayโ€™s White House press briefing.

Jean-Pierreโ€™s correction reveals that Cannard had not only met with Oโ€™Connor in relation to the president in January, but that he had examined the president during that visit as a part of his annual medical exam.

This is not the first time that Jean-Pierreโ€™s answers to questions related to the presidentโ€™s health since hisย disastrous debate performanceย last month have required clarification.

Biden was examined by his physician in the days following last monthโ€™s CNN presidential debate,ย the White House told CNN last weekย โ€” despite having previouslyย said that the president has had no medical exams since his February physical and had not been โ€œchecked out by the doctorโ€ for his cold around the debate.
