The political whirlwind within the ruling political party in Nigeria may appear to be tamed. This is judging by the recent development within the party where the President of the federal republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu has tapped on the former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for the position of the All Progressive Congress [APC] chairman to replace the former Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu who was forced to resign by the President.
According to information made available to 247ureports.com, President Tinubu dispatched three Governors [Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq of Kwara State, and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State] who are of the APC to inform the former Governor of Kano State of the President’s decision to have him head the party. The three Governor were briefed to convince the former Kano Governor to accept the new assignment.
Insiders within the Ganduje political block told our reporter that the former kano governor was hoping for a ministerial position instead of the position offered. However, President Tinubu pushed that he needed a personality like Ganduje at the realm of affairs in the party.
To convince Ganduje to drop his ministerial ambition, Tinubu gave him the option to select who will be the Minister from Kano. Tinubu also gave Ganduje five other slots to fill parastatals and agencies. He was promised a free hand as the chair of the party without interference from the presidency.
At the conclusion of the meeting which was held at the residence of Ganduje in Abuja, the three Governors, in the company of Ganduje, proceeded to the Presidential villa for a face to face meeting with President Tinubu.
This was yesterday evening.
The formalities to formally adopt Ganduje as the substantive chairman of the APC is set to begin as the national executive council [NEC] sits for a meeting.
