Gunmen suspected to be members the Eastern Security Network (ESN), on Tuesday, took over Ishi-Eke market Abakiliki in Ebonyi state, killing at least three tricyclists while enforcing the one week sit-at-home order.
The gunmen, in a viral video, shot sporadically in the air, saying that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the detained Leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, must be released or there won’t be peace in the land.
Shops, malls and others valuables were set ablaze as they laid siege at the market after scaring the people away with their gunshots.
The loud voice in the viral video said that they will continue to enforce the sit-at-home order till Nnamdi Kanu is released.
The voice continued, “it is happening live at Ishi-Eke market Abakiliki in Ebonyi state. We demand for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. The land will know no peace if Nnamdi Kanu is still detained.
The voice commanded, “shoot them, kill them, destroy everything and set it on fire. Since they cannot obey simple instruction. They were asked to stay at home but they neglected the instruction.
“I don’t want anything to remain. Burn everything you see, we are not happy at all. Nnamdi Kanu must be released. No Nnamdi Kanu, no peace in the land. As you can see everywhere is burning.”
Recall that the seperatist group had on Sunday declared a seven-day sit-at-home across the Southeast states with effect from Monday 3rd July, 2023, to press further the demand to release the IPOB leader.
