Ebonyi: Ministry of Women Affairs Begins Sensitization On Child’s Rights/Trafficking

In a bid to curb the menace of Child Abuse and other social vices in Ebonyi state, the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, in Collaboration with the office of the Governor’s Wife, Chief Mrs Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru, have flagged off Sensitization on Ebonyi Children’s Rights.

The project was unveiled Monday at Women Development Centre, WDC, Abakaliki.

The theme of the project tagged, “A Community Sensitization On The Rights of Ebonyi Children, Child Trafficking, Street Hawking/Begging, GBV And Other Forms Of Child Abuse.”

Mrs Nwamkpuma who appreciated the Governor Nwifuru and his wife for making the project a reality, said that the administration is focused on making all Ebonyians responsible and productive.

“I am confident by the affection His Excellency the Executive Governor of Ebonyi state is giving to my Ministry, to enable us create a society where Social, Economic, Political Empowerment and the rights of Girl Child, Women, Children, Persons with Disability, Older persons are inclusive.

In her address, Wife to Ebonyi state Governor, Chief Mrs Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru stated that Child Abuse will no longer be tolerated in the state, adding anyone caught will be arrested and jailed.

“Child trafficking is a criminal offence. I am sounding it as a warning that all mothers should keep their children at home. In Ebonyi, we say ‘No to Child Abuse or Trafficking.”(she added)

Meanwhile, the Deputy Governor Mrs Patricia Obila, appreciated the governor’s wife for taking up the project and pledged to support in the Sensitization of LGA’s at the grassroots through her office.

Other dignitaries present at the occasion are; Wife to Speaker & Deputy Speaker, Commissioner on Local Government and Chieftaincy, Hon. Uchenna Igwe, HRH Eze Oketa Sunday, National Council for Women Society, Local government Chairmen and their wives, National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Enugu.
