Bandits on Monday invaded Yar Bulutu weekly market in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing six persons, including three policemen.
The attack came on a day President Muhammadu Buhari was in the state to declare the Chief of Army Staffโs 2022 Conference open.
The bandits were said to have attacked the market around 12:30pm.
The member representing Sabon Birni South at the state house of assembly, Saโidu Ibrahim, told our reporter that the bandits came on about 20 motorcycles with each motorcycle carrying three persons.
โRight now I am with one of my brothers at Orthopaedic hospital in Wamakko because he was shot in the leg by the attackers,โ he said
Ibrahim noted that the attack was carried out by bandits who fled sustained military onslaught in Zamfara, Katsina and Kaduna states.
โThe operation ought to have been carried out in all the states experiencing banditry in the North West simultaneously but because it is not taking place in Sokoto, the state now became a safe haven for bandits dislodged in those states,โ he asserted.
The deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Idris Danchadi, who is from the area, said some places in Sabon Birni were still under the control of bandits.
