The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Bauchi state have commenced disbursement of N20,000 naira each to 228 petty traders beneficiaries under the Micro Enterprises Enhancement Scheme (MEES).
The State Coordinator, Lawal Yaya Ali, disclosed this at the commencement of payment to the successful beneficiaries, Tuesday in Bauchi.
According to the Cordinator, said the programme was an initiative of the Director General, Mal. Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo aimed at assisting and supporting the petty traders with a soft loan to improve their businesses.
He explained that the loan will be given out to 228 selected beneficiaries across the 20 LGA with N20,000 each and 3 month moratorium period to pay back in 3 years respectively.
Lawal, further explained “In order to curtail sharp practices, the beneficiaries have presented their Bank details and were paid through their respective accredited accounts”,.
He said that beneficiaries were cut across market women, street hawkers, shoes shinners, foods vendors, accara, moi-moi and pure water sellers among others.
247ureports also reports that the beneficiaries comprises of women, youth and were drawn from the three senatorial zones of the state.
Interview with some of the beneficiaries, Hauwa Abdullahi of Wunti street and Dada Azumi of Yelwan Labourer thanked the NDE and federal government for the gesture and promised to use the money judiciously for what is meant for to improve their businesses.
