The Police Command in Bauchi has arrested 1,464 suspects and recorded 850 cases in the past two years in the state.
The Spokesman of the Command, SP Mohammed Wakil, stated this at the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Peace and National Integration summit, on Thursday in Bauchi.
He said that the suspects were arrested and prosecuted for various offences including robbery, kidnapping, rape, homicide among others.
Breaking down the figure, Wakil said the command recorded 112 robbery cases and prosecuted 287 suspects while 74 kidnapping cases were recorded and 174 suspects prosecuted.
Wakil said that 231 suspects were arrested and prosecuted in connection with 186 rape cases recorded within the period under review.
“The command recorded 110 culpable homicide cases of which 206 suspects prosecuted, while 30 cases of theft and burglary were also recorded.
“Properties valued at N101 million had been recovered and handed over to the owners within the period under review,” he said
Wakil revealed that the command equally recovered 88 firearms, 25 AK 47 Rifles, three pistols, one Dane gun, 6,466 ammunitions, 29 locally made catridges and 27 locally made revolvers.
The spokesman said the recovery was part of efforts to mop off light arms in the state, adding that the feat was achieved through effective community policing and crime prevention strategies.
He reiterated the commitment of tte command to fight crimes, protect lives and property in the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the one-day peace summit was attended by public relations practitioners, media executives, government officials, representative of security agencies and Civil Society Organisations.
It is designed to create awareness on the importance of peace towards promoting peace, security and national unity.
