*commends Buhari on New Niger bridge

From Chuks Collins, Awka

The Anglican Bishop on the Niger, Dr Owen Nwokolo has charged the in-coming governor of Anambra State, Prof Chukwuma Soludo to endeavor to depart from the seeming usual unhealthy comprehensively skewed appointments, promotions, posting biases in the state on assumption of authority.

Bishop Nwokolo who dropped the message this afternoon during his Christmas/New Year message to the citizens, also commended the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government on what he described as “on the sustained work on the Second Niger Bridge.

“We see it on-going and was not abandoned.

“We know it would greatly decongest road traffic congestion in Onitsha.

“We are also hopeful on the completion of the Onitsha-Enugu Federal Highway which has remained uncompleted since the contract was awarded in 2007.

“The highway that ordinarily would take 45 minutes drive from Onitsha to Enugu, now takes upto 3 hours. It’s a very strategic road and links the North to all parts of Southern Nigeria. It also links the South-South and South-East with the North, The Federal Capital Territory and the South-West.

Commenting on the just concluded Anambra Governorship election held on Nov 6, Nwokolo gave a part on the back to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for seeing to it that the voters’ votes counted.

He said that the outcome of the poll has greatly redeemed the image of elections in the country, particularly that of the INEC. He also expressed joy that despite the intense security challenges and tensed atmosphere during run up to the poll, everything has come and gone rather peacefully.

The cleric commended Buhari, the security agencies and all stakeholders including the parties and electorate for allowing winners to emerge through the popular wish of the people.

Bishop Nwokolo described the coming year, 2022 as a new beginning for the state in many ramifications. That a new governor/government was being anxiously expected. That all infrastructure in the state have collapsed completely, so, there are much to be done.

He therefore urged Soludo to guard his loins firmly as so much was expected from him on assumption of duty.
