As part of effort to forestall environmental degradation, the federal government had inaugurated one of its erosion and flood control projects in Patigi of Kwara state. The project which included road works, drainages and culverts were constructed in Patigi to avert the dangers of erosion and flood threatening the lives and properties of the community and its environs.
While handing over the project to the community, the Minister of State, Transportation Sen. Gbemisolo Saraki, implored the residents to cherish the laudable project by preventing indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the channels.
Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary of Ecological Fund Office (EFO), Dr. Habiba Lawal, revealed that the project was initiated through a request by the Patigi Emirate Council for an urgent intervention to prevent erosion and flood.
Dr. lawal represented by the Assistant Director of Drought and Desertification Control, Mr. Muhammad Sani Manga, said that the handing over of the project to the community was to ensure its care and sustainability. The Permanent Secretary, who attributed the timely completion of the project to the hard work of the consultant and the contractor, thanked the duo for keeping to the schedule of the project.
The event was attended by the members of the benefiting community.
