Eleven new University dons were on Tuesday, invested and enrobed as professors by the Godfrey Okoye University, GoUni, Enugu.
GoUni is the Diocesan University of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu founded in 2009 during the epicopacy of Most Rev Anthony Gbuji, by Professor Christian Aniekie who is still the Vice Chancellor.
The professors included Dr Nicholas Obodo, Public Administration; Dr Ndidiamaka Ozofor, Mathematics; Dr Innocent Uzoechi, now deceased, History; Dr Felicia Ene, English; Dr Regina Tudaba, English Stylistics; Dr Michael Nwafor, Banking &Finance.
Others are Rev Sis. Marysylvia Nwachukwu, Religion & Biblical Theology; Rev Fr Donatus Nwobodo, Educational Foundations; Dr Freeman T. Nwanne, Banking & Finance; Dr Sergius Ude, Accounting and Professor Emeritus, Mark Chijioke, who served for 30 Years and is retiring as the first emeritus Professor of the University.
The VC, Aniekie had in his speech congratulated the new professors, adding that their position was function of their industry, commitment and excellence.
He declared that “being a professor is the same as being a professor of Godfrey Okoye University,” adding “the professor of GoUni is someone who is formally recognized as Professor of Godfrey Okoye University, embodies the whole knowledge, history and epistemic trends in their field of research as well as the philosophy, mission and vision of Godfrey Okoye university.”
He contended that while two of the three components of this definition applied to all professors, one was particular about GoUni professors. “To be a professor of GoUni, you must drink from the fountain of the third component of our professional identity: the philosophy, the mission and vision of Godfrey Okoye University.”
Anieke, described the event tagged ‘Professorial Investiture’ as unique and first of its kind in the country.
Speaking on his elevation, one of the new professors, Michael Ozofor, said they were full of thanks to the university management for finding them worthy of the honour.
“We have been doing this work of teaching for over 30 years. I have written 24 books and by this year I have written and published 36 scholarly articles. I am happy that today our brothers are celebrating us. It will spur us to do more.”
