200 people in Kirfi community benefits from MP free surgery

200 people in Kirfi Community in Bauchi State has benefitted from the Free Surgery provided by a State House of Assembly Member Representing the area Abdulkadir Umar Dewu, saying it has restored and revived the lost hope of those with serious health challenges in the area.

The communities didn’t hide their excitement on thursday when team of reporters from visited the community.

A 19-year old Appendix patient, who was on admission at Kirfi General Hospital, Saude Dalha who came from Baba Village thanked the law maker, for initiating the free surgery programme from which she benefitted two months ago, at Kirfi General Hospital.

Narrating her ordeal before the surgery to newsmen in Kirfi, Saude  said she had been battling with stomach ache for more than three months, an ailment which many times affected her ability to move or carry out her usual curricular activities but now she is healthy with the help of free surgery introduced to the community by the law maker .

She said her parents are poor cannot afford to take her to Hospital and pay for her medical bills but now she find relief with the help of the medical doctor through the free surgery programme..

Mother of the patient Mallama Sabuwa said they could not raise the amount of money asked by the Hospital before the introduction of free surgery because of their  condition they lived a rather miserable lifestyle when all hope was lost.

She said their hope of treating their daughter was rekindled when they heard that the laws makers was starting a free surgery in his constituency

Another Patient Amina Adamu said .the free surgery introduced saved her life and her baby because she went through surgery she born her child, she is now recuperating in the Hospital free of charge courtesy of the law maker.

A community leader Mallam Ahmad Tijjani Abubakar Dewu said , the entire community are happy with the initiative because it help many people who are poor to get medical treatment

He said many people are happy because they themselves or their relatives where the eyes were operated free of charge, after they lost hope of getting medicine to their ailment due to poverty.

The Chief Medical Director of Kirfi General Hospital Dr Usman Musa Usman said since the inception of the free surgery programme four months ago they recorded over 200 people within the community that befitted from the free surgery.

Dr Usman said they always get what are needed for the surgery from the lawmaker without any hitches and advised pother politicians to emulate him.

Dr Usman said the programme increase access to Hospital by the rural communities in the area and explained that they treated appendix, where a woman  has difficulty to give birth they did a surgery to her, they also treated all minor surgeries that are carried out by general hospitals.

He said all patients under go screening, the ward head in their area will also sign his form and his parents before the surgery.

On his part the Law Maker Abdulqadir Dewu said he initiated the free surgery because of the health challenges he observed his communities are facing and due to lack of funds many cannot treat their ailments.

Dewu said the projects was introduced after a thorough research and discussions with the stake holders in the area on the area that community need his services most and free surgery was chosen which many are benefiting from it.

He reiterated his commitments to serve his people well and pledged to continue with free surgery up to the end of his tenure and pledge to introduce more different programmes that will continue to better the life of Kirfi communities.
