The Nasarawa command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has apprehended a 27 year Ahmadu Yaro over alleged defilement of a Three-months-old Rukaya and three other babies in Adogi village of Lafia Local Government Area.
The Commandant of NSCDC,Muhammad Mahmoud-Fari disclosed this while parading the suspect in Lafia,represented by Bisi Olugboyega,The Deputy Commandant of the corps, said the suspect was nabbed from his Adogi residence on June 22, about 2:30 a.m. based on intelligence report.
The commandant said the suspect had confessed to have defiled the three-months-old baby Rukaya, whom he stole from the mother on the night of May 27, while she was sleeping.
The commandant said the suspect committed the act in an uncompleted building opposite Government Secondary School Adogi.
“While he was at it, he heard the sound of motorcycle approaching and had to abandon the baby and fled the village.
“He said Ahmadu was apprehended on June 22, at about 2:30.a.m in his house in Adogi.
“Ahmadu confessed to defiling three other babies in the area, ranging from Three months to One year Six months old.
“The parents of the other victims have also been identified and are here with us,” he said.
He said the suspect would be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to others.
The commandant urged Nigerians, especially parents to be vigilant and expose rapists in their neighbourhood as “their action is not only destroying the lives of the victims but also debasing the society.”
Meanwhile, the suspect while responding to questions from journalists, confessed to the crime.
He, however, pleaded for forgiveness and attributed his actions to “powers” beyond his control.
He denied that his action was for ritual purpose, adding that he had no accomplice.
The parents of the victims, who were at NSCDC state command are also calling for justice for the children.
Aliyu Hashimu, father of Rukaya wants the suspect prosecuted for the damage done to his daughter.
Mother of the victim,Maimuna Aliyu said the baby had already undergone two surgeries and would be going in for the third at the Jos University Teaching Hospital in two weeks time.
