The Anambra State House of Assembly, has enacted law for prevention and eradication of the dreaded novel sickness called “CORONA VIRUS DISEASE, which originated from China, Asia country, in 2019, and proved to be highly contaminable and spreads like wild fire to all parts of the world, with its dreaded name called “CONVID. 19” because it surfaced in 2019.
Majority Leader, Hon. Dr. Nnamdi G. Okafor, (APGA, Awka South I), introduced the Bill to the House, as it was an Executive Bill from Governor OBiano. The objective was to establish and enforce measures to prevent and stop the spread of Corona Virus COVID. 19, and other Dangerous Infectious Diseases, to ensure provision of appropriate healthcare, welfare and Curative measures and to provide for connected matters.
The law stipulated for wearing of face mask in public places, Public and Private offices should keep hand-washing vessles, with soap and sanitizers. People should maintain environmental cleanliness. Ceremonies should not attract crowd, beyond thirty persons, including burial, marriages, festivals. The dead should be buried immediately, by their immediate kinsmen, of not more than thirty people. Defaulters in the stipulations should be liable for a fine of Ten thousand naira, Both Magistrate and Mobile Courts, have Jurisdiction to try offenders.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Uchenna Okafor, said that the law is to protect people against infection, as the sickness, is said to have no cure yet, and its most efficacious cure is to adopt preventive measures. He called on people to bear with the Government and observe the law to their own interest.
