Kano state government has commended the Government and people of the United Kingdom for their generous investments in the state’s Education sector over the years.
The commendation was made by the commissioner of Education, Malam Sanusi Sa’id Kiru when he received a high powered delegation from the DFID UK and DFID Nigeria on courtesy visit in his office.
He noted that the government of the UK has invested huge resources not only to the education sector but also to Health, Socio – economic and cultural developments of the state among others.
The educational programmes/projects runed by the DFID which include ESSPIN, FITILA, KaLMA, Engaging Nigerian Girls in New Enterprise and the UNICEF/DFID Girls education programmes, according to him are all geared towards the improvement of access and quality of basic education in the state.
He therefore disclosed that the ministry through one of it’s parastatals, the SUBEB is working hand in hands with the implementation team of the programmes.
The commissioner however, told the delegation that Kano state government has since it’s inception resolved to put Education on it’s top priority list hence allocating lump sum to the sector in the 2020 budget.
He added that the government has made huge investments in the area of infrastructures, staff development and the provision of teaching/learning equipment.
The commissioner while further expressing the gratitude of the Government and people of Kano state to DFID, he prayed that the long standing relationship wil continue to wax stronger.
Earlier, the leader of the DFID UK delegation Mr. Hugor said that they were at the ministry to congratulate the new Commissioner for his appointment as well as to acquint him with the activities of the DFID.
Mr Hugor explained further that the DFID has been in a long bi-lateral relationship with Kano state government on Education especially on the issue of Girl child Education, Access, Quality teaching and learning among others.
