No fewer than eight people were injured and 10 vehicles destroyed on Monday in Kano when a bloody clash allegedly erupted among thugs loyal to the Kwankwassiyya Movement.
An impeccable source within the ranks of the Kawnkwassiyya Movement headed by the immediate-past Governor of the state, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, said a group of “dissident” thugs elected to violence to vent their anger on Kwankwaso, shortly after he commissioned a School of Midwifrey in Madobi Local Government area of the state.
According to the Source who craved anonymity, “what happened was that some senior members of the Kwankwassiyya who are visibly angry with Kwankwaso over his non-challant attitude to the welfare of committed members of the Movement sponsored thugs to disrupt that programme.”
The Source told journalists that the incident occurred shortly after the programme when Kwankwaso’s convoy was returning to Kano.
He confirmed that eight persons were injured and 10 vehicles damaged during the infighting.
Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the spokesperson of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, confirmed the clash.
Dawakin Tofa said the incident occurred when Kwankwasiyya supporters were returning from Madobi locyal Government area after their Leader, Kwankwaso, had commissioned a private Female College of Nursing and Midwifrey.
According to him, “some of our supporters were seriously injured and currently receiving medical treatment in some clinics, 10 vehicles were destroyed and personal items carted away by political thugs believed to be sponsored by Kano State Government.”
But when contacted, the Chairman Kano state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, denied the allegation that the Kwankwasiyya were attacked by supporters of the ruling party.
According to him, “it is a mere allegation and I believe the Kwankwasiyya people are just beating around the bush. There is no iota of truth in their allegation.
“They are just trying to blackmail the ruling party because they are envying the uncommon achievements of Ganduje’s administration.
“They are good in tarnishing our image and they have been doing that since the inception of the present administration back in 2015. APC is a peace loving party.”
When contacted the Police Public Relations Officer of Kano state Police Command, DSP Haruna Abdullahi, said the police were yet to receive any report on the incident.
He added that, “we have not received any report from anybody that he or she was attacked. However, we have deployed our men to the scene of the incident to restore law and order.”
