Ikpeazu reiterates commitment to rural devt in Abia

Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia on Tuesday reiterated the commitment of the state government toward evolving programmes that would boost rural development.

Ikpeazu made this known in Alaoma while inspecting the Umuikaa-Umuene-Obikabia road project which stretches from Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Council to Obingwa Local Government Council.

The governor said that rural development was fundamental to the attainment of sustainable socio-economic growth in the state.

Ikpeazu said that the state government would adopt effective approaches in implementing its developmental plan, in order to enhance economic productivity in rural communities.

He assured that Abia Government would commence the renovation of the Primary Health Centre in Umuhie, Ikeahaba Autonomous Community in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government by November.

Ikpeazu said that the health centre would be upgraded to provide the modern healthcare facilities to improve access to healthcare service in the area.

The governor said that the construction of the Umuikaa-Umuene-Obikabia road would be completed before the second quarter of 2020, because of the role it would play in boosting economic activities in the area.

In his remark, Eze Godwin Nwakanma of Alaoma Autonomous Community, thanked the state government for its effort toward alleviating the suffering of the people in the area.

Nwakanma commended the state government for the ongoing road project and appealed to the state government to expedite action in fast tracking the completion of the project.

Earlier, Chief Nnamdi Evulobi, the Representative of Umuhie of Ikeahaba Community in Isiala Ngwa South, appealed to Abia Government to rescue the people of Ikeahaba Community because of the deplorable state of the Primary Health Centre in the area.

Evulobi said that members of the community were experiencing hardship in accessing good, quality and affordable healthcare services.
