Soldier Kills Okada Rider Over N100 In Aba

A yet to be identified soldier has shot dead an Okada rider, Chimaobi Nwogu, for allegedly refusing to part with N100 bribe at a military checkpoint  located at Ohanze Community, in Obingwa  local government area of Abia state.

247ureports.com gathered that the late Chimaobi aged 28, passed the military checkpoint and refused to part with N100 to the soldiers. Angered by the action, one of the soldiers was said to have boarded another motorcycle and trailed to his village in Umuokereke Ngwa community and shot him dead.

The soldier fled before  residents of the community could know what was happening.

A resident of the community said that Chimaobi’s wife is heavily pregnant and may soon put to bed. The resident disclosed that the deceased left 3 children and who is going to take care of them now that he has been shot dead by the military?

There was heavy protest as youths of the community took the corpse to Ohanze and set the military checkpoint on fire.

The angry youths further took the corpse to Opobo junction, Ogbor Hill, Aba, where they also set fire to the police checkpoint and patrol van.

Military gunfire rent from all major roads in Ogbor Hill as motorists scampered to safety. Police also fired tear gas to disperse the protesting youths as they erected barricade along major roads as they paraded the corpse. The police were later joined by a convoy of military vans who arrested residents. When the protest died down, over 30 residents were said to have been arrested by soldiers.

Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Major Kadiri Aliu, proved futile as his mobile number rang repeatedly without response. Major Aliu also failed to respond to message to his mobile number.
