Benue state government has tasked corp members in the country particularly, those posted to Benue to use their service year to contribute to the unity and development of the nation.
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State gave this charge at the flagging off ceremony of 2019 Batch ‘B’ stream 2, orientation course held at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Wanune in Tarka local government area of the state.
The Governor who assured corp members deployed to state of their safety said the present administration is already reaping the benefits of laws put in place to ensure the security and safety of all inhabitants in the state.
Governor Ortom who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Anthony Ijohor, SAN, welcomed the corps members, reminding them that education is a force that erases arbitrary divisions of ethnicity, tribe, religion or class.
Ortom also told them it is a rare privilege to be part of NYSC scheme advising them to serve their father land with loyalty and dedication.
He then Urge the new corp members to feel free as Benue state is hospitable.
Meanwhile, Chairman of NYSC State Governing Board and Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development, Mrs Ladi Ajene-Isegbe, adviced the corps members to take skill acquisition and entrepreneurship programme seriously so that they can be self reliant if they can’t be gainfully employed.
Earlier, the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr Joshua Shisha, said about 1500 corps were posted to the state and therefore urge them to take their orientation progarmme and service year very seriously.
Mr Shisha urged the corps members to use their strength to contribute their quota to the development of the nation. He thanked state government, INEC, collaborating agencies and partners for making the corps members comfortable in the state
