The Public Complaints Commission (PCC) says it will soon make a resolution statement on the matter between Igwe Godwin Ezeilo, traditional ruler of Nanka Community in Orumba North Local Government and Chief Walter Okeke over Afo-Nanka market land allocation.
Mr Samben Nwosu, the Federal Commissioner in charge of Anambra PCC office, said this after the final examination session in a case conference held on Thursday.
Okeke had draggedย Ezeilo to PCC, alleging that the monarch was falsely laying claims to the market space allotted to him by the Orumba North Council Authority in 2016.
He said he surveyed the land in question where he got approval to build a bank, having met the allocation processes as stipulated by the council.
According to him, I did not apply to get a land in Nanka market, rather the council chairman at that time, called me to come for my allocation, saying he was aware that I had the capacity to develop the land.
Okeke said he paid for the space through the Head of Works after which the chairman of Market Allocation Committee showed him a space and the council approved for him to do a survey of the place.
In his defence, Ezeilo said he got allocation for the same place in 2014 with approval to build an eatery and a bank.
The monarch said Nanka market land was donated to the community by a particular village, adding that it could only be allocated for development purposes and could not be sold to individuals.
He said it was wrong for Okeke to survey any land within the market without coordinates as the land remained a community land and he could not appropriate it to himself for paltry allocation fee.
Ezeilo said he was the original and bona fide allottee because the council authorities had not revoked the allocation he did in 2014.
He said the petitioner had called him in the past to sign off the bank area to him as he had been informed that it already belonged to someone.
Ezeilo said apart from fighting for what rightly belonged to him, he was also protecting the interest of Nanka people as part of the area in question was for siting of Police Station and other community projects.
Mr Obinna Ikwueto, Transition Chairman of the council who was at the case conference, provided documentation history of Nanka Market allocation even when he was not the one in office when the two allocations were made.
Mr Collins Nwafor and Dr Sam Mba who were in charge of Works and Market Committee were also present to explain their roles.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a team from PCC were at the market for on-the-spot assessment of the market land.
Nwosu said he would rule on the matter on a date not latter than 30 days.
He urged the parties to remain peaceful assuring they would both be happy at the end.
