Kano state government on Monday described as a display of ignorance a call by a group of civil society organizations for the resignation of the newly installed Emirs of Bichi, Karaye, Gaya and Rano.

The Renaissance Coalition in collaboration with Kano-based Civil Society Organizations on Monday, during a Press Conference at Bristol Palace called for the resignation of the new Emirs.

The spokesman of the group, Abdulrahaman Baffa Yola also called on His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto to intervene in the on-going crisis surrounding the creation of four additional emirates in Kano state, saying the exercise did not follow due process.

According to him, “we call on His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto being the leader of the Danfodio Caliphate to denounce in strong terms the creation of additional emirates in Kano which was done without consultation with major stakeholders and following the due process.

But in a swift reaction, Kano state Commissioner for Information, Youth and Culture, Malam Muhammad Garba, described the group as sponsored elements who are being used to destabilize peace and cause tension in the state.

According to him, “we are not surprise because this so-called Civil Society Organizations are speaking out of ignorance. In fact, they are being used by a few elite in Kano to cause problem.

“The creation of the four emirates followed all due process. The matter is already in court. My advice to them is that anyone of them who does not want to stay in Rano, Bichi, Karaye and Gaya emirates can relocate to Kano.

“This matter is very simple; and for them to be sponsoring Press Conference here and there means they are committing contempt of court.

“The creation of these four additional emirates is entirely for the development of Kano state. We are not begrudging or victimizing anyone. We are bringing governance and development closer to the people.”
