A 38-year-old security guard, Kazeem Alimi, on Tuesday appeared in an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court for beating up a man for allegedly having an affair with his girlfriend to a state of coma.
The defendant, who is a security guard at Metro Hotel, Ibara Housing, Abeokuta, is charged with assault.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Adejoke Adebari, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 22 at 2.10 p.m., at Lipede Estate, Abeokuta.
Adebari said the defendant went to his girlfriend’s house, simply identified as Bose, where he met the complainant, Razaq Waheed in her apartment.
He alleged that Alimi punched the complainant during an altercation.
Adebari said that the complainant sustained a fracture on his thigh.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 355 of the Criminal Code Vol.1, Laws of Ogun 2006.
The Magistrate, Mr Sam Obaleye,admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum.
Obaleye ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and show evidence of tax payment to the Ogun Government.
He adjourned the case until May 3 for trial.
