From Ahmad SAKA, Bauchi
The People’s Democratic Party PDM has asked the Bauchi Federal High Court to declare its gubernatorial candidate as winner of the just concluded Bauchi governorship election over non-inclusion of the party logo the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC in the ballot paper.
Counsel to the Plaintiff Barrister Auwal Idris Kwami told reporters at the premoses of Bauchi Federal Highcourt that “we are in court our client PDM instructed us to file a suit against INEC over the un lawful non-inclusion of our party logo in the ballot paper by the electoral body on the just concluded governorship election, We are now asking the court to cancel the election or in the alternative declare our client our party as the winner of the Bauchi Governorship Polls since our party has dully registered and we sponsored a candidate which we are very much convinced that our candidate should returned elected we want the court to set aside the election conducted or in the alternative declare our candidate as winner of the election because it’s very fundamental to stick adherence of section 138 sun d of the electoral act”
Kwami said they will pursue the case to the logical conclusion even if the electoral body declare somebody as winner of the election and that person sworn the court will cancel the election in the interest of justice and fairness because when one observed the number of registered voters only one third of the registered voters come out to vote and all the majority that didn’t vote refused to vote because the logo of their candidate was not on the ballot paper..
When asked if they were sponsored by government to file a suit against the electoral body Kwami said “My client were also suspicious that whether the party in government have a hand in non-inclusion of our party logo in the ballot paper”
He said they were in court to move the experte motion but the Judge has traveled for another official assignment the case was adjourned for a date to be communicated to them.
