Plans have been concluded by the governments of South Africa and the Anambra State to open the country’s Consular office in the state.
This was part of the outcome of deliberations between representatives of the state led by Gov Willie Obiano and the South African delegation led by the Acting South African High Commissioner in Nigeria, Mr Bobby Moroe when they paid a courtesy visit recently to Obiano at the Governor’s Lodge, Awka yesterday.
The governor and the High Commissioner briefed journalists after their closed-door meeting.
They disclosed it was a very far reaching fruitful deliberations that centered on plans to set up a South African Consul in Anambra State to facilitate travels to and fro the country as well as other areas of cooperation in the areas of agriculture, power, tourism and hospitality.
That there was also plans for Anambra state to partner South Africa to train young people from the state in the Tourism/Hospitality industry and other related areas.
The High Commissioner, in his remarks said they were impressed with what the state has achieved in the select areas and said the move to strengthen relations between South Africa and Anambra State will translate into dividends that will extensively benefit the people and drive mutual economic growth.
