From Austine Tsenzughul, Bauchi
The Executive Order 6 recently issued by President Muhammad Buhari barring fifty Nigerians from leaving Nigerian shores has been hailed by Social Democratic Party (SDP).
It said the Executive Order 6 is for the good of the society, and urged Nigerians to support it.
National Secretary, Social Democratic Party (SDP) Alh. Shehu Musa Gabam threw his weight behind the Order yesterday on behalf of his party in his Tilden-Fulani residence, Toro, Bauchi state
Gabam, a former Chief of Staff, to then Bauchi Gov. Isa Yuguda, said “the Executive Order 6, is for the good of Nigerians and Nigeria”.
He explained” the Executive Order is meant to restrict those who held public offices and are being asked to account for their stewardship or being investigated for the abusive roles they while in office”.
The SDP scribe who also insisted that there is every need to re-structure Nigeria due increase in population, infrastructural and other developments projects, attributed incessant clashes between farmers and herders to old set standards, especially in northern Nigeria.
According to him, if Nigeria is restructured, a lot of unhealthy challenges will be eliminated and more development will carried out in all facets of Nigeria’s life.
On credible and generally acceptable elections in Nigeria, Gabam opined that” politicians must take responsibility to organize free, fair and credible elections to supplement INEC”.
And Independence Electoral Commission (INEC) should put in place, a stringent law that will punish electoral law offenders, irrespective of their positions.
Commenting on the federal government’s position that ”boko haram has been degraded”, Gabam noted that ”Nigerians are seeing what the government’s is doing on farmers and herders, general security, boko haram has been degraded, but there are more killings now than before”.
“The government has agreed it has failed. It has a duty to protect lives and property of its citizens, a secured nation will attract investments, political security will attract economic security. The government knows this but nothing is being done.
While decrying lack of patriotism, the politician insisted that ”lack of patriotism is borne out of the old 3 regions, we are operating a failed generation, and this means more trouble will come. We need the nation before we can achieve anything, most of us are more interested in individualism and not nationalism.
We prefer relying on our regions more than the whole country but the nation must come before the region and individual, and this is one of the reasons that Nigeria should be restructured.
