Gov Willie Obiano has charges citizens of the 179 communities of the state to brace up for the next phase of the popular Community-choose-your-project initiative of his administration which kicks off in February 2019.
Obiano who disclosed the cheering news to the state yesterday during the official handing over of Certificate of Recognition to the new traditional ruler of Lilu, in Ihiala Council, HRH Igwe (Dr)Godson Onyediri expressed satisfaction that the programme has been meeting with the projected intentions.
More so that the citizens have continued to praise the initiative as it has gone a long way to ensure that all the communities were carried along in the state’s socio-economic development plans concurrently. He therefore urged the communities that were yet to complete the phases One and Two to hurry up as the funds for the next phase would be released from February 2019.
He charged the new monarch to embrace peace and unity in the leadership of Lilu as already laid down by the state government, and also to give full support to his administration.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Greg Obi had while introducing the new monarch described his method of emergence as “a typical case of the success of democracy of Gov Obiano’s administration”, pointing out that Onyediri is the first traditional ruler to be elected and presented by the community.
That the race for the throne commenced about thirty-four years ago when the community’s last Warrant Chief, Igwe Felix FOC Olikagu joined his ancestors in 1984.
Consequently, the new monarch -Dr Onyediri in the midst of Chief Bernard Ebuzoeme, Chief Felix Ezenwajiugo, Nze Onuoha Otuogbajie Ezelibe(Agbalanze), Prof Michael Obi Onyekonwu and Chief Ezeanyaezu Ihichukwu(Okpoko) was popularly elected through the open secret ballot election which was celebrated by all including other contestants.
Onyediri who was accompanied by a crowd of Lilu indigenes who sang and danced including Chief Dr Jerry Nwanoneze and the President General of the community -Mr Silas Ejikeme in his remarks appreciated the state governor for his confidence in him, and promised to move the community and the state forward.
