The Nigerian Navy has graduated 16 ratings in provost and regulating duties as part of effort to continue to raise standards, administer justice and discipline in the Navy.

The Commandant, Nigerian Navy Provost and Regulating School, in Makurdi, Commodore Bassey Edem Duke said the 16 ratings graduated after 12 weeks of rigorous and academic exercise.

Commodore Edem Duke while congratulated the graduands saying the school, since relocating to Makurdi, the Benue state capital, in 2010, has trained 812 personnel comprising 110 officers and 702 ratings inclusive of the 16 new graduands.

Commodore Edem said while the course lasted, efforts were made to imbibe in the students the best global practices in provost duties despite numerous challenges including inadequate office space.

Edem stated that with the reviewed curriculum recently approved by the Chief of Naval Staff, it will broaden the knowledge of the ratings to be more prepared to face contemporary and emergency security challenges in the maritime environment.

Commodore Edem thanked agencies and organizations that assisted them in he course of the training.

He also urged Governor Samuel Ortom to speed up the process of allocating a parcel of land to the school saying their relocation to a permanent site will present them with a good and conducive learning environment.

He said the importance of the school to administer criminal justice and discipline in the Nigerian Navy cannot be over emphasized hence the continuous expansion and and improvement on the scope og the course content.

Presenting certificates to the graduands by representatives of various security agencies, the Principal Instructor of the school, commander Mike Abashi, said the 16 graduands are beneficiaries of the reviewed cirriculum of the leading Regulating Qualifying Course 09/18.

Benue state Governor, Samuel Ortom admonished the graduands to be good ambassadors and hi live up to their expectations.

“This is a period of change and a lot is expected from you from the Nigerian Navy to bring the necessary change in the system, so it can not be business as usual”

Ortom who was represented his Special Assistance on Security, Col Paul Hemba,(rtd), urged the graduates yo strive to keep pace with their training in provost duties.

He also appealed to the Navy and all security agencies in the state to maintain the cordial relationship and synergy they have shown over the years for the peace and security of Benue.

Our correspondent reports that the naval ratings were taught some courses on criminology, naval law, provost and crime, security and intelligence, case file compilation and internal security amongst others.
