An influential coalition of young Nigerians, the Young Professionals For Progress, YPP, on Thursday, October 11, 2018 hailed the emergence Dr. Olusegun Mimiko as the presidential candidate of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP.
Dr. Mimiko, the immediate past governor of Ondo State, emerged as the candidate of the Zenith Labour Party at the party’s national convention in Abuja on Sunday, October 7, 2019.
The YPP’s congratulatory statement published on the group’s Facebook page, co-signed by Brian Dennis, the President of the young professionals; Ephraim Adiele, the National Spokesperson; and Boma Williams, the Director of Grassroots Mobilisation, the YPP congratulated the former housing and urban planning minister.
The group, which says it has a documented membership of 50,000 young professionals across Nigeria,  hailed Mimiko saying that it views the social democratic ideologue as “the solution to the many problems plaguing the country” and praised his “clear vision and ability to get the job done”, and said that his pedigree was not equaled by any other presidential candidate in the 2019 elections.
“The Young Professionals for Progress (YPP) wishes to use this medium to congratulate Dr Olusegun Mimiko on his emergence as the presidential candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP),” the statement opened.
“With a pedigree equaled by none of the other presidential candidates, YPP considers Dr. Mimiko as the solution to the many problems currently plaguing the country.
“It is no secret that during the course of his glowing political career, Dr. Mimiko has always impressed the international community, youth, women, and and millions of Nigerians with his clear vision and ability to get the job done against the most formidable of oppositions.”
The youth promised to embark on a door-to-door campaign to sensitise Nigerians on Mimiko’s youth aligned vision and declared their believe that Dr. Mimiko would win the presidential election of 2019.
“Now that the coast is clear for the campaign proper to begin, we promise to knock on every door and make sure Nigerian youth align with your vision so we can all usher you into Aso Rock come 2019, when the Nigeria of our dreams will be actualised,” the statement said.
“We are confident that your influence, with the visionary leadership of the ZLP, led by Dan Nwanyanwu will encourage young Nigerians to get involved in the political scene at a time when expired hands are taking the country back to the stone ages,” the statement read in part.
The YPP, last month, had called on Dr. Mimiko to exit the Labour Party and “step away from the ongoing unproductive drama”, and lead the movement towards victory in the 2019 general elections.
That week, it was announced that the former Ondo governor had moved away from the Labour Party and joined the Zenith Labour Party, joining forced with Dr. Nwanyanwu, his political partner, with whom he obtained eight electoral victories.
