Igbo Bu Igbo Makes Case For South East VP For Atiku…Tips Peter Obi, Ekweremadu, Abaribe, Others
A leading pan-Igbo organization, Igbo Bu Ogbo Sociocultural Foundation (IBI) has made a very strong case for the presidential flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to pick his running mate from the southeastern part of the country.
In a statement released in Abuja, the nation’s capital and signed by Dr. Law Mefor and Chidi Omeje, Chancellor and Secretary respectively, Igbo Bu Igbo noted that the Southeast parades an array of eminently qualified men and women who could be vice president of the country and make the needed difference. The organization noted that “The country is in a dire need of self-rediscovery, unity and economic revitalization. The situation calls for a president and a vice with track records of achievements, astute leadership capabilities and bridge building capacity to bring divergent parts of the country back working together again.”
Igbo Bu Igbo went further to do a critical review of the political, economic and social problems besetting the country and used the diagnosis to arrive at a shortlist of over half a dozen Igbos with excellent credentials who could help Atiku win and also deliver on the job.
In the straw vote the organization conducted online the following emerged:
- Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor and Adviser to the President,
. Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, Deputy Senate President,
- Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, Chairman of South East Senate Caucus
- Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, former Economic coordinating and Finance and Foreign Affairs minister
- Prof Chukwuma Soludo, former CBN Governor,
- Prof. Greg Ibe, Chancellor of Gregory University, Uturu,
- And Dr. Ifeanyi Patrick Ubah, Chairman of Capital Oil
The organization further states: “All Nigerians and indeed all the ethnic nationalities in the country are equal stakeholders and should have equal opportunities to contribute their quotas to the development of the country, Southeast inclusive.
“The nation needs to urgently industrialise and develop, create jobs for the teeming unemployed youths and give hope to Africa and the Black race at large. An Igbo Vice President will surely help to get the nation on the path of development, industrialization and job creation.
“A southeast Vice President will also be a fitting reward for the steadfastness and commitment of the zone to the Peoples Democratic Party despite all the odds,” the statement added.
