My Lieutenant’s Not Able To Defend My Govt, My Major Challenge…Ortom
From Msughshima Andrew, Makurdi
Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom today lamented the inability of his appointees to properly defend his administration when the need arises saying it has been his major challenge.
Ortom stated this while inaugurating the 19 newly appointed Chairmen and members of 17 Boards of parastatals and the Councils of Akperan Orshi College of Agriculture Yandev and Akawe Torkula College of Advanced and Professional Studies, Makurdi.
He said his appointees are keeping mute when they should be talking to defend the government from those bent on castigating it for no just cause.
“Some people have come to me and said look, your information machinery is not good, change them but i said look, even if you bring the best journalists, you will still have a challenge.
“My greatest challenge is the inability of having people to defend my government. I have tried to compare myself with other states. Those who are supposed to talk will keep quiet even when this government is being castigated and runned down. They don’t say anything.
“And sometimes, those who are in government and are supposed to explain things to people, run away from the people. It is a big challenge. So I have learnt to talk myself but how many people can I reach out to. That is the challenge I have”, Ortom lamented.
The Governor therefore encouraged the board chairmen to see themselves as a bridge and act as defenders and advisers of his government so that together they can run a functional government in the state.
Ortom who acknowledged that leadership comes with much responsibility urged them to deploy their wealth of experience to facilitate service delivery in their respective areas of assignment.
