The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue has condemned and rejected the planned sale of government owned companies by state government.

PDP in a statement signed by it’s State Publicity Secretary, Mr Bemgba Iortyom on Saturday amd madw available to 247ureports, in Makurdi, described government’s action as misplaced.

Bemgba said the PDP discovered that Benue Government, through its Council on Privatization and Commercialization of Public Enterprises, plans to depose of public ownership of some companies in the state.

He cited an advertorial in The Nation Newspaper of Tuesday, April 10, 2018, where government listed 11 companies including Benue Links Transport Company Ltd, Makurdi Modern Market, Taraku Mills, Mega Foods and Beverages Processing Company Ltd, Benfruit Nigeria Ltd and Benkims Plastic Nigeria Ltd.

Other companies are Katsina Ala Yam Flour Factory, Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) Ltd, Fertilizer Blending Company Ltd, Otukpo Burnt Bricks and Benue Roof Tiles Ltd.

Bemgba said the people of Benue State who are the owners of those assets have a right to know why they should be sold saying the excuse of bringing efficiency, effective performance and economic prosperity of the state as watery.

Bemgba added that facts on ground by the PDP show that most  companies have been running profitably well with little or no capital involvement by government.

Bemgba said government’s decision was rather reflected as lack of will to do the right thing and an absence of vision by the present administration to utilise the potential of those assets to improve the economic fortunes of the state.
