The Police in Anambra state, on Monday, warned against illegal use of sirens, saying it would arrest politicians and unauthorised persons caught using siren in the state and be made to face the full wrath of the law.

It said the ban on use of sirens and covering of number plates by unauthorised persons was still on.

The state Commissioner of police, Mr Garba Umar who disclosed this at a press briefing in his office, said only hospital ambulances on duty,  the state governor, banks conveying money and police officers on duty were authorised to move on sirens.

“The Command wishes to warn and remind the general public on the ban of incessant use of siren, and  covering of number plates as anyone caught violating such laws will be arrested and dealt with decisively,” he said.

Umar added that sequel to the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris on withdrawal of police personnel attached to VIPs, Government Officials, Political office holders, Corporate Organization, Multi National Companies, the Anambra State Command would commence the enforcement of the order on 20th of April.

“Henceforth all new application/request in respect for the services of Police Mobile Men , Special Protection Unit, Counter Terrorism Squad ,and Conventional Police, must be processed and submitted to the Office of the Commissioner of Police Anambra State Police Command Headquarters, Awka who will forward all applications to the Inspector General of Police for approval.” he said.

 The CP asked members of the public to report any case of extortion in that regard to his office, stressing that such applications were free of charge.

The commissioner paraded 25 suspects who committed various forms of crime in the month of March on the occasion.
