Next Generation Youth Initiative International (NeGYII) and CLEEN Foundation have strongly condemned the unwarranted killing of innocent Nigerians and the decimation of human life on account of crises between herdsmen and farmers in Benue State at the wake of the New Year.

The group which described the killings  as an act of barbarism, callousness and cruelty of the highest degree called on authorities to ensure halt the crisis and ensure peace and reconciliation.

NeGYII said their organization, in conjunction with CLEEN Foundation and partners, had embarked on a project aimed at the prevention of violent extremism and youth radicalization in Benue State with particular reference to Makurdi and Buruku for over a year now in their three-year project plan for Benue State.

They therefore  expressed surprise and worry that in spite of their huge investment in peace building in Benue State such ugly incidence could still manifest in the State.

“Agatu still remain fresh in our history and hardly has its scars gone that we are at the point of another pain, groaning, anguish and mass burial. We are much more surprised that these attacks are occurring almost simultaneously in Nasarawa, Taraba, Adamawa and Kaduna States.

“This means that the Middle Belt region is growing in conflagration, a situation that is of much concern to us as Peace Makers and Peace Brokers”.

The youth organization who expressed their condolence to the government and people of Benue State also prayed that there will be no reoccurrence of such again.

They praised Governor Ortom for his courage in the peaceful handling and management of this crisis to forestall the breakdown of rule of law and order and appealed to all the stakeholders and parties in the crisis to sheath their sword, embrace peace forgive and reconcile with one another.

They said Nigeria needs both the herdsmen and farmers whose role and contributions to the Nigerian economy have been dominant and implored the Federal Government of Nigeria to take concrete action to bring an end to this recurring herdsmen/farmers crisis.
