Cultists Beat Man To Stupor In Owerri Market Over N150,000

Tension is raging high at the Relief Market, Owerri, following the brutalization of Mr. Obinna, a livestock dealer at the Relief Market, Owerri, who was said to have been assaulted by one Mr. Oliver Nnabuchi, who hails from Owerri and some people said to be cultists.
Mr. Nnabuchi was said to have beaten the victim in collaboration with with cultists, including one Chima Adigwe, a dealer in the livestock section of the Relief Market.
Crisis began on Friday, February 16, 2018, when Nnabuchi was said to have led some people believed to be cultists and armed with axes, cutlasses and some other dangerous weapons and stormed the market, brutalizing their victim, Mr. Obinna, over what they said was his inability to register his membership with livestock dealers association with the sum of N150,000.
However, Mr. Oliver Nnabuchi was said not to be a member of the livestock association but rather an Owerri indigene, who claimed to have indigenous right at the market.
Speaking to newsmen, the Chairman, Livestock Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society of Relief Market Owerri, Mr. Joseph Iwuofor, expressed dissatisfaction over what he described brutalization by cult action on one of the market members, adding that it was evil and barbaric.
He also disclosed that the assailant was not a member of the general market.
The Chairman, however, frowned at the action which he described as wicked, noting that such kind of movement spearheaded by Mr. Oliver Nnabuchi, whom he described as a Pool6 Agent who does his business outside the market premises.
He expressed worry over Nnabuchi’s incessant appearance in the market causing trouble always.
Mr. Iwuofor disclosed that the case has been reported to the police and noted that the victim is at the moments receiving medical treatments.
The Chairman, Relief Market Association, Mr. Chinedu Anyasike, frowned at the high level of cult activities in the market, stressing that the actions of the assailants was wicked and inhuman and can never be accepted in the market under his watch.
He assured that the police are on top of the whole matter. But efforts to speak with the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Andrew Enwerem, was unsuccessful as he did not take his calls.
Meanwhile, the victim who is responding to treatment at a hospital in Owerri and could be discharged soon, lamented how his assailants attacked him in the market, saying that he did not do anything to deserve that kind of treatment.
