2019: Okorocha’s Deputy Battles Him Over Imo Guber

The previously silent battle between Governor Okorocha and his Deputy, Prince Eze Madumere, has finally come to the public glare as loyalists of the Deputy Governor stormed Owerri in protest, shutting down the state capital on Wednesday.
Madumere’s ambition to succeed Okorocha has received a boost of recent especially among his kinsmen.
But huge crowd yesterday matched through the major streets of Owerri to show support for the Deputy Governor, who comes from Owerri Zone.
They carried placards that read: “For Imo governorship 2019, ask for Mr. Integrity, Mr. Incorruptible; Vision 2019, Madumere all the way; It’s Madumere or…
The protesters were said to have come from Mbaitoli, the home local government area of the Deputy Governor, Ohaji/Egbema, Nkwerre and Nwangele local government areas of the State, numbering over 3,000.
The Madumere supporters later besieged the office of the Deputy Governor, urging him to take a bold step to contest the governorship position in 2019, noting that he is most qualified and has capacity to deliver.
The leader of the protesters, Chief Chidi Nwaogu, who addressed the press said that the solidarity match was to urge Madumere to join the gubernatorial race.
Nwaogu noted that the Deputy Governor fits in the 12 points criteria released by Governor Rochas Okorocha for aspirants of the exalted position.
He said: “According to the Governor’s criteria, Madumere has the capacity, he is competent, an administrator per excellence; he is humble, loyal, crises resolution expert, man of the people and most importantly he has got the cognate experience in Nigeria and in the diaspora. He has been tried and tested and he delivered at all times.”
He added that the crowd has come to identify with Mr. Perfect, Mr. Home boy who understands the heart beats of the polity and the people.
