Taraba Emerges Victorious As APC’s National Unity Cup Football Championship Ends

The All Progressives Congress (APC) football tournament taking place in Abuja has officially ended

The event tagged 1st APC National Unity Cup Football Championship was won by Taraba state – The football championship is the brainchild of the APC national youth leader, Honourable Ibrahim Dasuki-Jalo, who also used the occasion to advice Nigerian youths The APC national youth leader, Honourable Ibrahim Dasuki-Jalo, has advised Nigerian youths to embrace peace, unity and progress in all their endeavours.

Honourable Dasuki-Jalo made the comment during a chat with journalists on the sideline of the 1st APC National Unity Cup Football Championship which ended on Thursday, November 30.

The tournament which was won by Taraba state, is the first ever sports competition organised by a political party in Nigeria. Minister of women affairs, Senator Aisha Alhassan in an ecstatic mood with Team Taraba after they were declared winners of the competition.

Dasuki-Jalo promised that the APC will continue to promote the Nigeria youths, “whether economic, political, social and in whatever manner, because that is the only way to secure and guarantee their future.”

He continued: “From the youth wing of the party. We decided to come up with this idea and innovation in order to create activities for the young men in the party and also have a legacy whereby we establish something that after our exit, our young people will continue to enjoy and do for their own development and progress.

“We’ll do our best. Whoever that is coming, we’ll encourage them to sustain this legacy because it is the first time this is happening for political parties in Nigeria. I believe other parties will emulate what we are doing.”

The closing ceremony and final of the tournament was well attended by chieftains of the ruling party.

the national chairman of the APC; Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, FCT minister; Alhaji Mohammed Bello, Bauchi state governor; Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, women affairs minister; Senator Aisha Alhassan and the special adviser to the president on political matters; Senator Babafemi Ojudu at the event.

The tournament was won by Taraba state football as they defeated their Gombe state counterparts by 4-3 on penalties in a tension-soaked football match at the Old Parade Ground in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
