Okorocha Fails To Pay Nov/Dec Salaries

By Austin Echefu

Civil servants in Imo State have cried out that they were yet to get their November/December salaries.

Speaking with 247ureports in Owerri on Thursday, the workers said that they were yet to receive their November/December salaries despite the announcement by the state government that they were being paid.

In a press release by the Commissioner for Information, Professor Nnamdi Obiareri, the state government said “that His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha OON, has approved the immediate payment of the November and December 2017 salaries of Imo workers”.

The Commissioner said that the payment of the November/December salaries was “to enable our esteemed Imo workers to celebrate a seamless Christmas”, adding that “Payments have duly  commenced”.

The Commissioner also called on any civil servant in the state “encountering any difficulties with the approved payments … not hesitate to contact the Ministry of Happiness and Purpose Fulfilment for immediate intervention”.

But in an interaction with 247ureports at some of the local governments on Wednesday and Thursday, it was gathered that those in charge of paying the payroll officers had deserted their offices for fear of being disturbed and questioned by the workers, as the workers salaries had not got to them for onward payment to the workers.

The workers said they were still awaiting the payment of their salaries, even as they expressed the fear of celebrating the yuletide without money.
